I get approached by a lot of guys who come on strong. They make a lot of promises and things seem to be progressing towards a relationship but then things cool off once I start to like them back. (FYI I will make out but won't have sex unless I'm in a serious relationship.) My feelings are always hurt when this happens.

You don't know what another person is looking for and a lot of the time you aren't on the same page (e.g. they are looking for ';fun'; whereas you are looking for a relationship). Make all the first meetings 'coffee dates' to weed out the bad ones right away. Date only once a week and you will know by date number 10 if he is long-term relationship material. He should be a gentleman: Hold the door for you, keep his hands to himself, no talking about sex, no negative comments, treats other people with respect, etc.
